Ivy Skulk
Overview
The Ivy Skulk is the foundational physical infrastructure of the Vita Filorum ecosystem. Acting as the central nervous system of the network, it is the main medium that connects everything together. In the Vita Filorum architecture, tethers usually connect entities directly to one another. Instead, an entity (the receptor) connects to the Ivy Skulk, which acts as an "inter-tether" highway to route signals to a Singularity, which then routes the command back through the Ivy to its final destination (the effector) when tethers aren't optimal. Visually, it resembles a dense, twisting system of hardened, root-like cables that weave through the environment, capable of carrying both biological nutrients and high-voltage electrical currents.
Operation Protocols
Because it lacks localised intelligence or sensory organs, the Ivy Skulk operates purely as a passive, hyper-efficient conductive medium.
Structural Foundation
- Inter-tethering: By acting as a middleman between nodes, the Ivy Skulk prevents the network from becoming a tangled, inefficient mess. If a Tether Sensor needs to reach a Singularity, it simply splices into the nearest Ivy Skulk branch rather than growing a tether all the way to the host tree.
- Voltage Tolerance: Because the network uses electrical transverse pulses ranging from 50V to 400V, the Ivy Skulk is heavily insulated. It is designed to withstand massive, sudden surges of alternating current—such as a 400V
APXoverride or a Hunter kill-command—without frying the rest of the network.
Network Redundancy
- Sever-ability: While severing a branch of the Ivy Skulk will temporarily disrupt local communication, the plant grows in a highly redundant, overlapping web. If a connection is cut, the Singularity will automatically reroute signals through an adjacent branch.
Interaction Logic
- Relay Syntax: The Ivy Skulk does not generate its own commands. Instead, it alters the directional tag of an existing signal to
RLY(Ivy Skulk Relay) to pass it down the line. - Example Routing: If a Singularity (
STY) needs to wake a Hunter (HTR) but they are far apart, the signal passes through the Ivy (IVY) using a relay tag:STY-INT-RLY-DEF-L.
