Warden
Overview
The Warden is the primary, brute-force defensive fauna of the Vita Filorum network. Designed strictly to protect vital nodes like a Singularity or a Prolific, the Warden acts as the ecosystem's chained guard dog.
Physically, it is a hulking, bear-like creature. Standing roughly 180cm tall and incredibly wide, it is built entirely for overwhelming physical power. Unlike the Hunter, which relies on stealth and highly advanced electro-paralysis to incapacitate targets, the Warden relies purely on crushing blunt-force trauma and grappling strength. Despite its terrifying combat capabilities, its exterior is covered in a very soft, thick, fur-like material, leading to a bizarre secondary use when not actively defending the network.
Operation Protocols
The Warden operates on a strict binary of extreme violence or total docility, dictated entirely by the intensity of the electrical signal it receives through its incredibly thick, restrictive tether (which rarely exceeds 5 meters in length).
Rapid Subterranean Emergence
- Concealment: For most of its existence, the Warden remains completely submerged underground, buried directly into the soil near the node it protects to conserve energy.
- The Eruption: When a Tether Sensor detects danger and the Singularity issues a combat command, the Warden rapidly crawls out of the earth at terrifying speeds. Within seconds of the signal, it breaches the surface, fully prepared to maul the intruder.
- Swarm Sensitivity: Wardens are exceptionally sensitive to network relays (
RLY). A threat signal sent to one Warden often cascades through the Ivy Skulk, triggering a chain reaction. It is incredibly common for multiple Wardens to erupt from the ground simultaneously, forming a massive, insurmountable wall of bear-like muscle around a single target.
Restricted Engagement
- The 5-Meter Tether: The Warden is hyper-lethal within its immediate vicinity but completely harmless outside of it. Because its tether is incredibly short and completely un-severable, it cannot pursue targets. If an intruder steps just out of reach, the Warden can only thrash at the end of its leash.
Domestication & Docility
- Non-Apex Summoning: If the Warden receives a low-voltage, non-combat signal, it emerges in a completely docile, low-energy state.
- The "Cuddly" Form: Without high-intensity combat instructions routing through its tether, the Warden’s aggressive subroutines remain dormant. In this state, it is exceptionally soft, affectionate, and harmless. Because of this, certain Wardens have been successfully domesticated, acting as giant, cuddly companions so long as they remain tethered and isolated from the network's danger signals.
Interaction Logic
Because it has no independent processing power, the Warden's actions and lifespan are entirely dictated by efferent commands from the Singularity.
- Defensive Swarm Activation: When a Singularity validates acoustic danger (
TSN-SNS-AFF-ACA-N), it sends a 230V outward instruction to wake the Wardens. Relaying this signal summons a rapid-response pack:STY-INT-RLY$WRD-DEF-M. - Docile / Domesticated Summon: To pull the Warden from the ground safely for grooming, interaction, or general maintenance, a localised, low-intensity signal is used, keeping the beast totally passive:
STY-INT-EFF$WRD-DEF-L. - Termination & Escalation (The Death Spike): If a Warden is somehow overpowered and killed by a threat, the violent severing of its biological connection shoots a massive 400V termination spike back inward to the Singularity (
WRD-SYS-AFF-TRM-H). This instantly forces the Singularity to call in a Vulture via an Apex override (STY-INT-EFF$VLT-APX-H).
